A second collection of stories were selected to support the themes of the River of Memory exhibit. Janet Alec, Lashway Alec, George Lebrun, William Cassam, Herbert Hance, Peter Louis, Doreen Patrick and Hilda Sill share their experiences fishing, trapping, preparing skins or preserving food in the DVD, Elders’ Stories: Survival on the Land.
The skills that William Cassam learned from his father on the trap line led to his career as a successful guide or outfitter. Herbert Hance speaks of the changing conditions which have resulted in diminished access to resources during his lifetime. Doreen Patrick and Hilda Sill tell teaching stories, which communicate traditional values.
Both Elders’ Stories: Memory and Wisdom and Elders’ Stories: Survival on the Land are available through the Quesnel & District Museum and Archives.
