Datsan ‘algut – Juniper bush, the juniper branches and the
berries are boiled and used for someone who had tuberculosis. The branches
and berries are also boiled like you would make tea. You would drink
this for colds, bladder infections, and other common ailments. The juniper
bush was used for many reasons; it was used to cleanse the houses to
get rid of the bad spirits and ghosts, it was also used to bless the
people if they were feeling bad because of a break-up and having a hard
time dealing with the situation.
Luwus t’an Chun - Soap berry bushes, was used to cleanse your
digestive system. You crush the stem of the soap berry bush and boil
for about 1 hour and you drink it like you would tea. The bark of the
bush is used as an anesthetic and the leaves are good for bee stings.
The berries on the bush were whipped up with water and sugar and used
for dessert called Indian ice cream. It tasted so very good!!
