Use of the CaribouThe caribou was a very important animal to the Carrier. To them it was a source of food along with a source of materials for clothing, tent coverings, cooking and hunting tools. The meat, as well as all of the vital organs was used as a food source. The skin was used for material in making clothing and shoes. Caribou hide was also used for tent shelters, making drums and various hunting and fishing equipment. The sinew is taken from the tendon of the caribou. Sinew is used as thread, bow strings, fishing line and snares. The bones and antlers of the animal is used to created numerous skinning and scraping tools in addition to combs and other such decorative items.
