Carrier Culture

Diet

The type of food they ate was dependent on what season it was. In the spring and fall the Carrier hunted for moose, caribou, mountain sheep and goats, ground hogs, hares and deer. Fish is another major component of the Carrier diet. To balance their diet the Carriers used numerous berries, roots and shoots. A few of the berries that were eaten were blueberries, cranberries, service-berries and soap-berries. Vegetables easily found and harvested were bracken fern, roots, dog-tooth, violet bulbs, lily and iris roots, wild onions, cow parsnip and wild onion.
